On 23 May 2024, thanks for the opportunity given to me by the WordPress València team, I had the honour of participating in the WordPress València Meetup, where I shared my experiences and strategies on web project management. In this article, I present a summary of the highlights of my presentation and then you have the video, thanks to the WordPress València team:
Introduction and background
From my beginnings in programming in 1992 to the founding of Doowebs in 2011, my career has been marked by a constant evolution in the world of web development. I started creating my first website in 1998 and, after working with platforms like Joomla!, I settled in the WordPress environment in 2010.
Stages of Web Project Management
The management of a web project can be divided into several phases: recruitment, organisation, design, development, publication and maintenance. Each of these phases is detailed below:
1. Acquisition
Project acquisition is carried out through various channels:
- Word of mouth: Satisfied customers, friends, family and acquaintances.
- Partners: Agencies, sector professionals and work platforms.
- Internet: SEO Strategies, SEM and social media presence.
During the first meeting with the client, it is crucial to listen to their needs, present our methodology and show similar projects. This lays the groundwork for a detailed proposal tailored to their expectations.
2. Organization
The internal organisation of the project starts by reviewing the brief and details with the team. We use management tools such as Asana, ClickUp, Jira, Notion or Trello to plan tasks, assign times and estimated costs, ensuring efficient and transparent management.
3. Design
The project design includes the definition of the web structure and user experience (UX). This process is validated in several stages with the client, from the initial design of the main page and general styles of the secondary pages. This collaboration ensures that the final design meets the client’s expectations and needs.
4. Development
WordPress development starts with local environments using tools such as XAMPP, MAMP or Local. We create custom templates, develop blocks and plugins, and follow coding standards to ensure code quality. Once developed, the project is uploaded to a development environment (DEV) for client review and training before final release.
5. Publication
Publishing the website involves uploading the project to the production server, checking links, ensuring proper indexing and configuring crucial aspects such as SEO and WPO. In addition, we integrate tools such as Google Analytics and Search Console, and solicit client feedback to continually improve our services.
6. Maintenance
Maintenance is essential to the long-term health of any web project. We offer regular maintenance services and bags of hours to ensure that our clients’ websites are always up to date and running smoothly. Continuous monitoring allows us to anticipate and resolve problems before they affect site performance.
